The Burnaby Steelers are pleased to welcome Mark Coletta as the team’s Education Advisor.

A standout junior and university player, Mark Coletta began his hockey career with the PIJHL’s Richmond Sockeyes before capturing a National Championship with NCAA Division III Plattsburgh State in New York.

After graduating, he returned to B.C. to begin his coaching career, starting as an assistant with the BCHL’s Surrey Eagles. He later coached several elite rep teams at Burnaby Winter Club, where he played his minor hockey.

Coletta joined the SFU Men’s Hockey program in 2008 and quickly made an impact, winning the BCIHL Championship in 2010 and earning back-to-back Coach of the Year honours in 2009 and 2010. He remains as their head coach to this day and is also employed as a substitute teacher.

“Mark is a proud Burnaby native who came up through BWC and has coached elite rep teams in the area,” said Aldo Bruno, Co-owner of the Burnaby Steelers. “As Head Coach of SFU Men’s Hockey, he understands the demands student-athletes face. We’re proud to have him as our Academic Advisor to help guide our players on and off the ice.”

Coletta shared his thoughts, “It’s always a good thing to help out whenever you can and give back. So being able to advise young hockey players and guide them through their studies and what it takes to get into University or College will be a fun experience.”
