BURNABY STEELERS JUNIOR 'A' HOCKEY CLUB

Recruitment

The Steelers, established in 1967, are one of Canada’s oldest junior hockey teams. We have a tradition of success both on the scoreboard and in developing hockey careers and young men. We play out of the Burnaby Winter Club, centrally located off the #1 Highway. The Steelers encourage a family environment and are consistently one of the top teams in the PJHL.

At the Grandview Steelers, our players are provided with a first-class experience both on and off the ice. This includes on-ice practices and dryland sessions up to five times a week, pre- and post-game meals covered by the organization, team bus transportation to and from games, and access to a state-of-the-art training facility.

We are proud of our strong team culture and commitment to developing well-rounded individuals. The Grandview Steelers family stands for teamwork, dedication, sportsmanship, and community involvement. Our program is built around several key pillars:

Trainer Support
Player safety and well-being are our top priorities. A certified athletic trainer is present at all team events, providing injury prevention, treatment, and recovery support.

Education in Life & Academic Skills
We encourage players to excel in school and life by promoting academic achievement and the development of practical life skills.

Education Initiatives & Scholarships
Scholarships are available to help players balance athletic pursuits with educational ambitions, supporting growth in both areas.

Physical & Mental Wellness
We take a holistic approach to development, emphasizing both physical conditioning and mental health to support overall performance and well-being.

Mentorship & Personal Development
Our experienced coaches and mentors guide players on and off the ice, fostering leadership, strong character, and life readiness.

Physical Fitness
Strength, conditioning, and athletic performance are critical to success. Our fitness program is designed to help players reach peak physical form.

Off-Ice Dryland Training
Dryland sessions are mandatory and supervised, helping players build strength, agility, and hockey-specific athleticism.

Hockey Development
We are dedicated to refining each player’s technical skills, hockey IQ, and game strategy—ensuring continuous progress in all areas of play.

Team Culture
Respect, camaraderie, and accountability are the cornerstones of our team environment. We foster a culture where players support each other and grow together.

Community Service & Engagement
Giving back is an essential part of being a Steeler. Players participate in local charitable events, youth hockey mentorship, and community service initiatives.

These guiding principles form the foundation of the Grandview Steelers program. By combining elite hockey training with personal development, education, and community involvement, we are proud to shape the next generation of leaders—on and off the ice.
