Burnaby, BC — After over five decades of proud hockey tradition, the Grandview Steelers are entering a bold new era.

Today, the organization is thrilled to announce that it will officially become the Burnaby Steelers, marking a historic name change that reflects the team’s long standing roots in the Burnaby community.

Founded in 1967 in Vancouver’s Grandview-Woodland neighbourhood, the Steelers have built a legacy of grit, growth, and championships in the Pacific Junior Hockey League (PJHL).

Since moving to the Burnaby Winter Club in 2007, the team has continued to thrive—both on the ice and within the fabric of Burnaby’s sports culture. While the name is new, the logo, uniforms, and identity that fans know and love will remain unchanged.

“This isn’t just a name change—it’s an evolution,” said co-owner Aldo Bruno of the Steelers. “We are incredibly proud of our Grandview origins, but the name ‘Burnaby Steelers’ reflects who we are today and where we’re going tomorrow.”

The rebrand was made to better align the team with the Burnaby community, which has supported the organization for nearly two decades. The move also opens the door to deeper connections with local fans, businesses, and future players.

“We’re very proud of our Grandview heritage,” said co-owner Mike Moscone. “Changing our name is the right thing for us to do. We live and work in this community, but that Grandview legacy is part of who we are and always will be.”

Despite the new name, one thing remains unchanged: the Steelers’ relentless commitment to excellence on the ice and character off of it.

To celebrate the transition and honour its rich history, the team will highlight its Grandview legacy all season long.

That includes appearances by notable alumni, special features across social media and game nights, and the Steelers Wall of Honour unveiling—a permanent tribute to the people and players who helped shape the franchise.
