The Burnaby Steelers are pleased to announce the hiring of Dave Wilkie as an assistant coach.

Wilkie grew up and played minor hockey in Vancouver before playing junior hockey with the Grandview Steelers and Penticton Panthers (Vees). Steelers Head Coach Enio Sacilotto coached him on the Panthers before he moved on to play professionally in the British National and Premier Hockey Leagues.

As a coach, Wilkie has experience in the BCEHL with the North West Hawks, where he led the U15 AAA team to a provincial championship in 2021-22 and was named the coach of the year in 2023-24 by BC Hockey. He has also spent time as an assistant coach with the North Vancouver Wolf Pack.

“Dave is no stranger to the PJHL, having both played with the Steelers and coached in the league. We are confident he will bring valuable knowledge to our players and help us continue to elevate our program. It’s great to have him on board this year,” said co-owner Aldo Bruno.

On top of coaching the Steelers, he will spend the year with Burnaby Winter Club Academy U17 AAA as their head coach.

Wilkie, who won the championship with the Steelers in 1994, said, “I’m really happy to be back where my junior career first began. This is a full circle moment for me — and I am grateful for the opportunity to come back and continue building on those roots.”

The Steelers start the 2025-26 campaign in Ridge Meadows before their home opener on Sunday against Delta. Tickets are available at the gate and online.
