The Burnaby Steelers have acquired 2007-born defender Mattias De Zen from the La Ronge Ice Wolves of the SJHL in exchange for a player development fee.
De Zen (Burnaby, BC) returns to the Burnaby Winter Club for the first time since the 2023-24 season after most recently playing for the Ice Wolves where he posted 19 points in 50 games.
Listed at 5’10” and 176 lbs., the left-shot product dressed for the Burnaby Winter Club’s U16, U17 and U18 teams.
“Mattias is a dynamic, skilled defenceman who can make an impact at both ends of the ice. His experience and leadership will be a great asset to our younger players, and he brings a strong understanding of the game and what it takes to compete at a high level,” said Steelers General Manager Craig Carter.
“He has the ability to move the puck, create offence and make plays under pressure, and we believe he’ll be a big addition to our blue line and our hockey club,” added Carter.
The Steelers open the 2026-2027 season in Langley on Saturday, September 19. The team plays their home opener on Sunday, September 20.
